At the Albania Eurovision 2017 internal song contest, called “Festivali i Këngës”, both the jury and the viewers, who voted online, decided that the pop-rock singer Lindita is going to represent the country at the most anticipated European song competition of the year. She will attempt to get a Eurovision win for Albania with her song “Botë”, which translates as “World”.
Lindita Halimi, commonly referred to as simply Lindita, was born on 24 March 1989 in Viti, Kosovo, in the former Social Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. While she only became famous in 2006, when she participated in the popular Albanian TV show Top Fest, she had been singing since the age of 14. Because of her great talent, her family decided to enrol her in music school. She is fluent in English, German, Spanish and Croatian.
While Lindita had always been passionate about music, the large public found out about her great talent in 2006, when she won the sixth edition of the Albanian television programme Top Fest with her song "Ëndërroja" (I dreamed). She also achieved a pretty awesome performance when she reached the Top 10 in the third edition of Albanian Idol. In 2013, the artist moved to the US, where she became quite notorious after appearing on the last season of American Idol. Starting with her 2006 single "Ëndërroja", Lindita has released various other songs which became huge hits in Albania, like "Të dua vërtet" or “All Mine”, in which she sings alongside Nora Istrefi and Big D.
Throughout her career, the singer has received many important awards and nominations. Most notably, she won a Kënga Magjike 2009 prize for Best Rock Song and a Nota Fest 2010 prize for Best Performers. Her music style carries influences from world-class singers like Christina Aguilera, Tina Turner, Beyonce or Michael Jackson, so Albania Eurovision show this year should be exciting.
Fans of the singer have the opportunity of watching the unique Lindita Eurovision performance of “Botë” on 9 May, when she will sing in the first Kyiv semi-final. Translated as “World”, the song was composed by the renowned Klodian Qafoku, who also competed in Eurovision 2006 with the song “Zjarr e ftohtë”. It remains to be seen whether or not Lindita has what it takes to make history and get Albania its very first Eurovision win.
