At the Bulgaria Eurovision internal selection, organised by the national broadcaster BNT, Kristian Kostov emerged as victorious. The 17-year-old artist will represent the country with the song “Beautiful Mess”. Born in Moscow, the singer is famous for his participation in The Voice Kids Russia and X Factor Bulgaria. He is the youngest artist to ever compete in a Eurovision contest.
Kristian Kostov was born on 15 March 2000, in Moscow, Russia. His father is Bulgarian, while his mother is Kazakhstani. He is the only singer born after 1 January 2000 to sing on a Eurovision stage. In addition to singing, Kristian also loves writing songs. He is also passionate about acting.
Although he is only 17 years old, Kristian Kostov can already boast about many staggering accomplishments as a musician. He first rose to fame in Russia, in 2014, when he appeared on the first season of The Voice Kids. He was mentored by the famous Russian musician Díma Bilán and managed to make it to the final.
After becoming a star in Russia, Kristian decided to stay true to his Bulgarian origins and enlisted for X Factor Bulgaria, where he also advanced to the final. At the televised talent show, he was taken under the wing of the renowned Bulgarian producer Stanislava Armoutlieva. He succeeding in impressing everyone with his unique voice and charisma by performing various iconic Bulgarian hits. Eventually, Kristian placed second in the competition.
All Bulgarians are waiting breathlessly for the Kristian Kostov Eurovision act, as the young singer has a great potential of making it to the Kyiv grand finale and getting an awesome result. His single, “Beautiful Mess”, which will be performed in the second semi-final on 11 May, is the work of Borislav Milanov, Sebastian Armann and Joackim Bo Persson, the very same team that composed Poli Genova’s Eurovision 2016 entry, “If Love Was a Crime”. Bulgaria placed fourth at last year’s Eurovision, which is their best result so far. “Beautiful Mess” is a fantastic eclectic mixture featuring contrasting elements. It’s a song about love, friendship and kindness.
