At the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2017, the Denmark Eurovision preselection, the pop singer Anja Nissen won the title to represent the country at the most important song competition of the year. In spite of her young age, the Danish-Australian singer is already famous on a global scale, as she won the third series of The Voice Australia. She will participate at Eurovision 2017 with the single “Where I Am”.
Anja Nissen was born on 6 November 1995, in Winmalee, New South Wales, Australia, in a family of Danish immigrants. Anja grew up in the Lower Blue Mountains. The artist discovered her great music talent at a very young age. While she was attending high school, she participated in various music contests for young people, as part of the Talent Development Program (TPD). In her songs, she borrows elements from the music of artists like Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey or Celine Dion.
Anja is a singer that requires little introduction. When she was only 12, she appeared on Australia’s Got Talent and managed to reach the semi-finals. Nissen became famous all over the world in 2014, when she won the third edition of the large-audience television programme The Voice Australia. In the show, she was part of will.i.am’s team. Once the contest ended, the singer started to collaborate with will.i.am and Cody Wise on the song “I’m So Excited”.
A short while after winning The Voice, Anja released her debut album, entitled “Anja Nissen”. The album includes many of the songs she covered during the episodes of the show, such as David Guetta & Kelly Rowland’s “When Love Takes Over”, Jessie J’s “Wild” or Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable”. In 2015, she had a guest appearance on The Voice, where she performed her third single, “Triumph” to more than 1.6 million viewers.
The Anja Eurovision performance of the song “Where I Am” is one of the most anticipated acts in the second Kyiv semi-final. On 11 May, the young artist will try her best to make it to the grand finale. Considering that so far her career has been full of amazing achievements, it’s safe to assume she’ll get a pretty good result. She is bound to make a good impression, as her single has a very alert rhythm and gives off some really cheerful vibes.
