Finland in Eurovision 2017: Norma John to compete in Kyiv

At the Finland Eurovision 2017 national selection, which took place on 23 November last year, both the viewers and the professional jury were astonished by Norma John’s performance of their single “Blackbird”. For this reason, the Finnish duo made of pianist Lasse Piirainen and vocalist Leena Tirronen was granted the honour of representing the country in Ukraine, at the most important song contest of the year.

Who Are This Year’s Eurovision Finland Contestants

To begin with, we’ll tell you a thing or two about the duo which has been selected to represent Finland in Eurovision 2017 Kyiv. Established in 2008 in Kouvola, Finland, the indie pop group Norma John consists of pianist Lasse Piirainen and vocalist Leena Tirronen. The two are long-time friends, and they both share a deep and restless passion for singing and writing songs. Leena also became famous because of her participation in The X Factor Finland in 2010.

In their almost a decade of activity, Norma John have gained a very large fan base in all of Finland. Every year, they participate in many important festivals and events. Their music is praised for its powerful cinematic atmosphere which reflects the poetic spirit of the Scandinavians, which should be a great fit for Finland Eurovision performance.

Much of the duo’s popularity comes from the fact that singer Leena Tirronen appeared on The X Factor Finland. The artist’s performance was very appreciated by the jury and the public because of its uniqueness. In the end, Leena won the third position in the televised contest.
