In the wake of the Greece Eurovision 2017 national selection, the pop singer Demy was announced as the country’s representative at this year’s Eurosong competition. It came as no surprise that the viewers voted for young Dimitra Papadea, as she has released multiple top hits in Greece and is regarded as one of the most successful Greek artists of the moment.
Born on 21 August 1991 in Athens, Dimitra Papadea, known under the stage name of Demy, is one of the most thriving Greek singers of the moment. Demy discovered her passion for music at a very young age. Demi has been taking piano lessons since the age of 5. Her songs borrow elements from genres like Jazz, Soul or Rock and Roll. At the moment, she is also studying law in Athens.
Although she’s only been active for six years, Demy has already managed to become one of the most famous Greek pop singers. Released in 2011, her first song, “Mia Zografia”, became a huge hit all over Greece and Cyprus. It won two MAD Music Videos Awards in 2012 and reached the first place on both digital songs charts and radio charts. Since then, she’s also released many other successful hits, the latest being “Isovia Mazi (If Love Was a Crime)”.
So far, Demy has released two studio albums. The first one, launched at the end of 2012, entitled “#1”, did actually manage to peak the first place on Greek charts. Her second album, “Rodino Oneiro”, released in 2014, reached the seventh place on the charts, which is also a great accomplishment. Dimitra also released two number one EPs, “Mono Mprosta” and “Poses Xiliades Kalokairia”. Ever since she started singing, Demy’s career has been crowned with success. So far, she has won an MTV Europe Music Award and ten MAD Video Music Awards. Bottom line, Greece Eurovision show this year should be impressive.
On 13 May, Dimitra Papadea will represent Greece at the Eurovision 2017 final in Kyiv with the song “This Is Love”. The Demy Eurovision single is the work of a team of composers which included Dimitris Kontopoulos and director Fokas Evaggelinos. These two names are best known for working with Sergey Lazarev, last year’s Russian representative, who placed third in the contest. “This Is Love” is already a huge hit in Greece and it is expected to get a very good result at this year’s Eurovision. Demy will sing in the first semi-final, on 9 May.
