This year’s edition of the “HaKokhav HaBa L’Eurovizion”, the Israel Eurovision national selection, was won by Imri Ziv, a singer who achieved nationwide fame as an X Factor contestant. The artist obtained no less than 78% of the public vote! On 11 May, during the second semi-final in Kyiv, Imri will perform his latest single, “I Feel Alive”.
Imri Ziv was born on 12 September 1991 in the city of Hod HaSharon. He is of Romanian-Jewish and Ukrainian-Jewish descent. During his time at the Ilan Ramon High School, he was a member of a local boyband. Later on, while doing his mandatory military service, he sang with the band of Israel Defense Forces, namely the Education and Youth Corps Unit. Imri completed his studies at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya. He has a degree in communication sciences. The artist is also a voice actor.
Imri started singing when he was in high school but only managed to become famous in 2012, when he appeared in the first season of The Voice Israel. In the talent show, he was mentored by Rami Kleinstein, a long-established Israeli singer and composer. Although he was eliminated during the battle rounds, Ziv was well-liked by the public, and his great voice wasn’t forgotten.
The singer is not at his first participation at a Eurovision Song Contest. He served as a backing vocalist for Israel’s 2015 and 2016 representatives, Nadav Guedj and Hovi Star, who both made it to the finals. This year, Ziv enlisted for the Eurovision preselection, where he impressed the jury and the public with his spectacular performances of hits like Lady Gaga’s “Edge of Glory”, Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” or Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing”.
The Imri Ziv Eurovision performance of “I Feel Alive” will take place on 11 May, during the second semi-final in Ukraine. His fellow Israeli hope that the artist will get a really good result at the contest in Kyiv, as his single is the work of Dolev Ram and Penn Hazut, who have also composed the successful entries of previous contestants like Sarit Hadad, Eyal Golan, Eden Ben Zaken and Noa Kirel. Imri’s fresh hit for Eurovision 2017 is expected to make quite a sensation with its danceable and uplifting rhythm.
