At the Romania Eurovision preselection for the contest in Ukraine, Ilinca Băcilă and Alex Florea were chosen to be the country’s representatives. The duo was selected 100% by public vote. Both Ilinca and Alex are famous in Romania for their participation in The Voice. The two artists will perform “Yodel It!” on the stage in Kyiv, during the second semi-final.
Born on 17 August 1998 in Târgu Mureș, Maria Ilinca Băcilă is most famous for her one-of-a-kind yodel. Seeing as she comes from a family of musicians, Ilinca has been encouraged to pursue her music talent since a very young age. Starting at the age of 7, the artist has participated in many important festivals.
Born on 15 September 1991 in Constanta, Alexandru Ionuț Florea is one of the most talented Romanian pop singers. Florea decided to pursue a career in music at the age of 16. He was guided by Mihai Trăistariu, Romania’s representative at Eurovision 2006. At the moment, Alex is studying at the Ovidius Arts University.
Ilinca Băcilă has been passionate about music for as long as she can remember. Her first contact with the showbiz world occurred in 2012 when she appeared on the second season of Romanians Got Talent. Next year, she was a contestant on the Romanian X Factor. In 2014, Ilinca participated in the fourth season of “Vocea României”, the Romanian version of The Voice. The young singer was part of the team of the famous singer Loredana Groza. She was very appreciated for her unique performances of songs like OneRepublic’s “Counting Stars” or Betty Hutton’s “It’s Oh So Quiet”.
Alex Florea became famous all over Romania in 2015, after competing in the fifth season of The Voice of Romania, where he was taken under the wing of the Grammy-nominated Romanian composer Marius Moga. Alex stole the show with his spectacular interpretations of hits like Bon Jovi’s “Bed of Roses” or Aerosmith’s “Crazy”.
The Ilinca ft. Alex Florea Eurovision performance of “Yodel It!” will take place on 11 May, during the second semi-final. The best feature of the single is Ilinca’s yodelling during the chorus, which makes it one of the most original listings in the competition. Co-written by Mihai Alexandru, who also wrote Romania’s entry for Eurovision 2003, “Yodel It!” represents a clever mixture of yodelling, rap, rock and pop.
Don’t miss out on Romania’s sharp yodelling entry, which will be performed live on the stage in Kyiv on 11 May. For more details on Eurovision 2017 contestants, read our other articles!
